Vampire Diaries online

The Vampire Diaries is a television series in the United States that is based on a book series written by L.J. Smith. The series currently airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on the CW Network in the United States and on the CTV in Canada.

Show Synopsis:
Four months after a car accident kills their parents, 17-year-old Elena Gilbert and her 15-year-old brother Jeremy are trying to find a way to move on with their lives. Elena is a good student, beautiful and popular. She frequently becomes involved with her friends and school activities, but still has a hard time hiding her sadness from those around her. When the school year starts, Elena and her friends are introduced to a mysterious and handsome new student named Stefan Salvatore. Stefan and Elena are attracted to each other, but Elena doesn't realize he is a centuries-old vampire that is having a hard time struggling to live among humans. On the other hand, his brother Damon is a vampire focused on brutality and violence. These good and evil brothers fight for Elena and the sounds of everyone in the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

Show Staff:
The television series is based off the book series written by L.J. Smith. The Vampire Diaries is produced by Alloy Entertainment and Bonanza Productions Inc. along with Warner Brothers Television and CBS Television Studios. The executive producers include Kevin Williamson from Dawson's Creek and Scream; Julie Plec from Kyle XY and Wasteland; Leslie Morgenstein from Gossip Girl and Privileged; and Bob Levy from Gossip Girl and Privileged. The 'Pilot' was directed by Marcos Siega from Dexter. Siega has continued to direct other episodes and as also worked as a supervising producer.

Production Schedule:
On March 5, 2009, the Hollywood Reporter interviewed CW Entertainment's president Dawn Ostroff who had this to say about The Vampire Diaries: "There are very few shows on the air right now that are truly close-ended; most are open and ongoing. Even procedurals have gotten a little soapier. Each of the shows we have has a different flavor. 'Vampire Diaries' is different from anything else. It's more like 'Twilight' or a 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. Each episode has a beginning, middle and end."

The CW officially confirmed that the show was being picked up ahead of schedule on May 19, 2009. The show debuted on September 10, 2009 to record ratings. Then on February 16, 2010, the CW announced the show was going to be picked up for a second season.

Filming in Atlanta:
Kevin Williamson announced on May 10 that they were taking a trip to Georgia for scouting of locations. This was the first time it was publicly indicated that the production team wasn't going to film in Vancouver. The series first started production work Atlanta, Georgia on July 21, 2009. It was confirmed on February 16, 2010 that the second season would still be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.
