Vampire Diaries Scoop: Klaus Hits Mystic Falls

Evil is coming to Mystic Falls! Exec producer Julie Plec confirms to TV Guide Magazine that before the end of The Vampire Diaries' second season, viewers will get to meet Klaus — one of the original vampires. "We do not know anything about him other than that he's to be reckoned with and that no one's going to be safe when he gets to town," says Plec. "How he gets to town, when he gets to town, what he looks like when he gets to town — that's all part of the mystery."

But Plec isn't just being cagey. She tells us the character of Klaus keeps changing as the audition process progresses. "It's exciting to see a lot of new faces and try to figure out who we want that character to be and what kind of attitude we want him to have, what kind of charm we want him to have," she says. "That character is evolving even as we cast because we see a lot of things that we like and we think, 'Ooh, that's interesting. What an interesting take on the character.'"

While Plec and Kevin Williamson hunt for the perfect vampire, the January 27 episode promises to answer questions about the supernatural beings already shacking up in the small town. Last we saw, Bonnie (Katerina Graham) trusted new boy-witch Luka (Bryton James) in her quest to break the spell that causes a werewolf bite to kill vampires, but with the spell still firmly in place, is the legend true?

"There is a devolution of Rose's sanity and Rose's character, as a result of the bite, which brings a lot of danger into Elena's (Nina Dobrev) world and into everybody else's world," says Plec. "The follow up from that is going to be pretty extreme." And then there's werewolf Jules (Michaela McManus). "She knows now that Mason's dead, and she's going to have something to say about that. What she chooses to do and how she chooses to respond is big and it's bold, and it takes us for the next couple episodes on a journey that's pretty intense."

And, finally, there's some good news for Team Damon. "Elena and Stefan (Paul Wesley) are happily back together, but as a result of what Rose is going through, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena find themselves sort of thrown together, trying to deal with this invalid vampire," says Plec. "They go through a pretty rough emotional experience together which, of course, cements their relationship even further."

Vampire Diaries Review - Stefan's Diaries #2: Bloodlust

The first volume of Stefan's Diaries shot to #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List for Children's Books. Last week marked the release date of the second volume, which picks up shortly where the last one left off.

To recap, in "Origins", we learned how both Stefan and Damon came to be vampires. Of course, we had seen parts of how they were turned on The Vampire Diaries, but "Origins" filled in more of Stefan's backstory in particular, especially his engagement before Katherine came to town and how he and Damon both fell in love with her.

After the residents of Mystic Falls discovered that they were vampires, both Stefan and Damon fled town. This is where "Bloodlust" begins. Stefan is the stronger of the two brothers for most of the book, dragging Damon - who at first wants to die after becoming a vampire - to New Orleans to start a new life. There the two get separated and Stefan meets the woman who would become his best friend for many years: Lexi.

What's different about "Bloodlust", as opposed to "Origins", is how quickly the story moves along. I felt that "Origins" spent a lot of time setting up Stefan's backstory. But "Bloodlust" is much more quickly paced, and has a great deal more action. The only drawback of the quicker pace is that sometimes it almost seems too quick. Circumstances change drastically from one moment to the next and, because the book is relatively thin, it doesn't leave a lot of space for fleshing out certain scenes or characters.

But that's okay. Because fans of The Vampire Diaries will still enjoy "Bloodlust" for the holes it fills in. It's interesting to see how a newly-turned Stefan was so different from the brooding vampire that we know in the show. In fact, he's so impulsive and different it's hard to imagine that it's the same character. I think it's very interesting how the brothers essentially reversed roles from how they both acted right after they turned - and to discover the primary trigger for that role reversal (which I won't spoil for you!).

These Diaries are a great way to provide additional backstory that the television show simply doesn't have the time to do. And I have no doubt "Bloodlust" will be just as popular as "Origins". Nina Dobrev Shops Robertson, Talks Vampire Diaries

Looking to pick up some new duds, Nina Dobrev was spotted shopping in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon (January 18).

Ms. Dobrev hit up the shops of Robertson Boulevard, looking fabulous in a black cardigan, pink top, and black trousers.

As for her hit show “The Vampire Diaries,” Nina told press she wants to see Sacha Baron Cohen take the role of Klaus.

"Who [will play Klaus] we don't know yet. I know they've been going through rigorous casting. I think it'd be awesome if it was Sacha Baron Cohen using his Austrian accent. Like, 'Hello, my name is Klaus. How are you? I want to suck your blood'. I think it'd be great if he is the opposite of what everyone is expecting."

Show Synopsis:

Production Schedule:

Filming in Atlanta:
Kevin Williamson announced on May 10 that they were taking a trip to Georgia for scouting of locations. This was the first time it was publicly indicated that the production team wasn't going to film in Vancouver. The series first started production work Atlanta, Georgia on July 21, 2009. It was confirmed on February 16, 2010 that the second season would still be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.
